A PATIENT-CENTRIC FUNDING APPROACH

Gateway for Cancer Research is one of the only nonprofits that exclusively funds Phase I and Phase II cancer clinical trials for patients of all ages, across all cancer types. At the vanguard of discovery science, early-phase research is the first step in developing new treatments and therapies, and is often underfunded by traditional sources.

We invest in innovative early-stage research that has the potential to shift the paradigm for standard of care and make a meaningful difference in the lives of cancer patients.

Gateway is proud to partner with dedicated clinician-scientists at leading cancer centers and research institutions around the world who share our commitment to patients and to ending cancer as we know it.

Patient-Centered Research

Gateway is focused on empowering patients and their caregivers on their cancer journey. Patient advocates sit at every level of the organization, including the Research and Grants Committee that reviews all grant proposals.

At Gateway, it is always and only about the patient. Clinician-scientists are incentivized to put patients at the center of their work, and patient impact is an important part of the peer review grant scoring process. All Gateway grantees are asked to actively engage patients – before, during and after their participation in a Gateway-funded trial – to share their experiences with Gateway. This helps ensure Gateway’s understanding of the patient experience and inform future research funding priorities.

Practice-Changing Innovation

Early-phase cancer clinical trials are the first step in evaluating new cancer drugs, treatments and therapies that will change the face of cancer care. Gateway-funded trials bring potentially life-saving breakthroughs to the patient’s bedside at renowned research institutions around the world. They yield real, tangible results for cancer patients.

Holistic Treatment

Gateway funds integrative oncology research that promotes treatment while supporting quality of life. Integrative medicine combines conventional therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation with scientific evidence-based therapies to mitigate side effects and improve tolerability while treating the underlying disease

Our Focus on Patients

At Gateway, we are committed to empowering patients to triumph over their disease. To ensure patient voices are amplified in funded research, we require funded investigators to place patients at the center of their work.
